Simpsonville does crazy (again)

Pat Contoy could not have written a better story than that tale of Simpsonville politics in the past few years. Actually, that's not fair to Conroy. Simpsonville reads more like the folks from Dante's Inferno. The latest is shared in today's Greenville News.
Basically, the City's police force is about to lose accredidation all because the new mayor won't sign a check.
From the article:
"Early last year a computer server crash caused the Simpsonville Police Department to lose all of its emails and state accreditation files. Rather than go through the process of acquiring state accreditation again, Simpsonville Police Chief Keith Grounsell tried to pursue what's commonly referred to as national accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).
The application fee and software costs for the program were approved last year as part of the 2015-16 fiscal budget.
However the $11,000 check to pay for the application fee has yet to be signed and the deadline for doing so is March 15. The check must be signed by Mayor Janice Curtis, who took office Jan. 12, or Mayor Pro Tem Matthew Gooch.
"If we don't get the check signed by the 15th ... we're going to be terminated from the whole program and potentially suspended for an indefinite amount of time," Grounsell said at Tuesday's City Council meeting. "I asked for an extension and explained the process that we're currently going through, but they denied it.'"
The reason City Council is denying it? Well, the sort isn't clear. Something about budgets and cost. Sounds like just more of the same old backroom politics/ junior high vendattas that have plagued Simpsonville politics the past few years.
