It appears that Wendy Nanney is facing some competition in State House District 22.
Word is that Jason Elliott, a Greenville attorney is going to run against Nanney, who is the head of the Greenville delegation, but may be best known for her bizzarro land battle against cyclists last year. Why is that important? Because District 22 is built around the world of Bob Jones University. Nanney, of course has strong ties to BJU -- her father is County Councilman Bob Taylor, who has strong sway of voters in this district.
But the district has North Main, which is knd of a headquarters for cyclists who are itching to dump Nanney.
So who is Jason Elliott?
According to his law firm's website, he grew up in Anderson and then went to Clemson where he was student body president in 1992-93. Like many Tigers, he then went to the University of South Carolina School of Law.
After law school, Elliott erved as an Assistant Solicitor for the Tenth Judicial Circuit, prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies in Anderson and Oconee Counties. Further serving residents of the Upstate, he worked for then-Congressman Jim DeMint from 1999-2003 as DeMint’s District Director. In 2004, heopened his own practice, Jason Elliott, Attorney at Law, LLC. During the first year, he regularly prosecuted DUI and other criminal matters in Greenville County for the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor. The firm primarily represents clients in family law and criminal matters. In private practice, Jason has represented hundreds of clients throughout Upstate South Carolina.
He also is a past president of Greenville Rotary, serves on the Greenville County Legislative Delegation Transportation Committee and a past chair of Greenville Tech Charter School.
