Deconstructing Nanney
It has been almost 24 hours since Jason Elliott publicly unveiled his strategy to bring down incumbent Wendy Nanney in State House 22.
The message is simple. Nanney has been missing some key votes and is missing as much as 50 percent of the votes. This was said during the Greenville News political forum Monday night, and then became a front page story in that same newspaper. Nanney denied it in in the forum as well as immediately afterward.
However, it appears to be true, according to our quick review of her attendance record this session. But before we get to the raw data, let’s highlight some of the missed votes.
On March 16, she missed a vote on Move Over Awareness Month at 11:55 a.m.despite making every vote around it. This bill, by the way, protects law enforcement.
On February 25, she missed a vote on honoring the Mother Emanuel Nine. This comes after her very controversial vote to not take down the Confederate Flag from State House Grounds.
On June 4, 2015, she skipped a vote at 11:46 a.m. on body-worn cameras for law enforcement. This came after she left early the day before and missed 25 votes.
On May 20 2015, she missed several votes at the start of day (start time 10:32 a.m.) including a bill on Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety. This came a year after Nanney tried to force cyclists to take insurance and get permits.
On April 29, 2015, she left early and didn’t come in the next day. So maybe she was sick?
