Political Recap

I am sure a lot of politicians and wannabe politicians are going to be knocking back some cold ones this Cinco de Mayo. Not that today is any different for their drinking efforts, but at least they won't look as obvious.
Anyway, back to some of the big stories and non-big stories in local politics.
-- FITS News has this blistering article about the Greenville County Sheriff's cace. Anything that mentions blowjobs in the headline isn't going to be pretty. Rumor this is the first of many big stories that could leak in the next few week as three other people vie to unseat Sheriff Steve Loftis.
-- Speaking of Loftis, word is he is carrying a huge lead in polling despite such attention. Some show as much as much as 50 points ahead of the competition. While anything can happen between now and June 14, it appears Loftis can expect four more years.
-- If you haven't watched the video of the Greenville News political forum, do it now. County Council challenger Bunk Johnson steals the show with his malaprops and histrionics. The question is how much was political theater and how much was plain crazy?
-- Also, watch for Wendy Nanney's dear in the headlights glare after being repeatedly exposed for not doing her job by her challenger Jason Elliott.
-- The two of them are slated to square off again at a forum at the Greenville Chamber this Friday. It will be interesting to see what happens.
-- Also on the Chamber agenda for Friday is the race for County Council seat 22. This has not been nearly as dramatic as expected after Jim Burns announced he was stepping down. It could be that business woman Stacy Kuper has flat out crushed her opponents on social media, on the streets and at the fundraising table.
