Only in Simpsonville could a prostitution sting go political.
This battle has its root in a "sting operation" announced on May 20 where Simpsonville Police Chief Keith Grounsell announced 54 arrests in "Operation Good Time." It even made The New York Daily News. So what happened?
People began to question if the biggest sting in the history of Simpsonville or just a publicity stunt by the embattled Grounsell, who has been the subject of a suspension, a firing, a re-hiring, lawsuits and numerous other political questions in the past three years. The basic reasoning is that the Simpsonville Police Department didn't actually bust a prostitution ring, but invited people to Simpsonville to take part in one. The difference is subtle, but there. There was no real crimes being done except when solicited by the SPD.
And today, South Carolina's favorite muckracking site got in on the information. Yes, FITSNews is calling out Simpsonville.
