State Houses races to get forum

Candidates from five Statehouse races in Greenville County will get a chance to plead their cases Tuesday night at the Hughes Main Library.

This event is sponsored by The Greenville NAACP, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Greenville Chapter, Freedom Fighters Upstate SC, the Greenville League of Women Voters (LWV) and the Urban League. The panel will be moderated by Dr. Angelia Turner from Northern Greenville University and Kathleen Kempe from the Greenville League of Women Voters. Questions will on the issues facing the General Assembly

It will be held Tuesday, May 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The five races are:

State Senate 5: Incumbent Tom Corbin has been battling Republican rival John B. White of Spartanburg in a very bitter race for the northern parts of both counties.

State Senate 6: This has been a three way battle between three very different Republican candidates. Mike Fair is the incumbent, but faces steep opposition from Johnny Edwards, who is a political stalwart, and William Timmons, who has been running on a message of change.

State Senate 7: Four years after they last squared off for this seat, Lillian Brock Flemming is challenging Karl Allen. Fleming, who is a longtime Greenville City Councilwoman, is charging that Allen hasn't done anything for the district. Allen says he has.

State Senate 12: This is the battle royale as everyone seems to be challenging incumbent Lee Bright. His challengers are Scott Talley, Lisa Scott and Dave McCraw.

House 22: Another hotly contested one as incumbent Jason Elliott, a former Demint staffer, has gone after Wendy Nanney's record of non-attendance fairly heavily. Nanney, though, pushed home an abortion bill and is spending a ton of money to keep the job,

All of these folks have been invited. We will see who shows up.
