Ballotpedia on Nanney: She lied

If you have been following the battle for State House 22 the past few months, you have obviously noticed the big question of when incumbent Wendy Nanney shows up in Columbia.

Her challenge, Jason Elliott, says she shows up less than half the time. She claims 92 percent and even put a "report card" on her website giving herself an A. All of this caught the attention of Ballotpedia's Verbatim project. Both Elliott and Nanney were asked questions and then Ballotpedia looked at the numbers.

The verdict. Elliott is right. Nanney is wrong. According, to the article:

In a June 3 interview with Verbatim, Nanney said that Elliott’s claim is "completely inaccurate" and that her attendance is “over 92 percent.” She referred questions about her attendance record to the Clerk of the South Carolina State House. However, despite several attempts, we did not reach the House Clerk prior to publication. We will update the story if he responds.

It gets worse for Nanney as the article concludes with:

Based on Nanney’s voting history as presented on the website of the South Carolina General Assembly, she missed 32 percent of votes between the beginning of the 121st session and March 30, 2016. Between January 1, 2016, and March 30, 2016, Nanney missed 52 percent of votes.

This isn't the kind of story an incumbent wants to see the day before an election.
