Scuttlebutt is floating around that local November elections may get more crowded than expected.

It appears that several people and groups are trying to organize write-in campaigns in several races. The biggest of these is the Sheriff's Office, where challenger Will Lewis edged incumbent Steve Loftis on June 28. Will Lewis barely eked into the run-off with Loftis by edging Hobart Lewis, who is no relations.

Well, we have heard from several people that Hobart Lewis is trying to do a petition to get on the ballot. Also, trying to get on the ballot is Paul Guy, another former Greenville County deputy.

South Carolina state code says a petition containing signatures of at least five percent of the qualified registered electors in the geographical area of the office being sought must be presented by the filing deadline. No petition candidate is required to collect more than 10,000 signatures for any office.
